Gorgeous hand built McIlroy acoustic electric guitar in excellent plus condition. This is a well cared for, spotless guitar with almost no signs of play wear. This is a piece of Irish guitar building history; the AD model is McIlroy's dreadnaught line, and this is the very first AD built by Dermot McIlroy as attested to by the provenance / spec sheet, also included and pictured here.
This guitar is hand built, made of all solid premium tonewoods. All of these specs are included on the spec sheet as pictured, but let us list them here: The back and sides are made of beautifully figured Claro Walnut; the top is solid Sitka Spruce. Where the beauty of the craftsmanship really shows up is in the detail work: the rosette is made of Paua Abalone with Rosewood and Maple Purfling inlays...
The headstock veneer is Brazilian Rosewood with Maple purfling underlay. The bindings are made of Pear wood with Maple and Rosewood purfling inlays. Five piece neck: Mahogany / Maple / Bubinga / Maple / Mahogany...
Solid Ebony bridge and fingerboard; the fingerboard is bound with Ebony and Maple purfling. The strap button inlay and heel cap are Pear Wood with Maple and Rosewood purfling. Tuners are gold plated SG 381's with amber pearloid buttons; the nut and saddle are bone.
This McIlroy AD20 is a fairly loud dreadnaught, but not heavy on the low end like Martins are known for. Very clean and crisp notes up and down the fretboard, with a very balanced and clear tone. Easy playing, and a great guitar for DADGAD and other alternate tunings. This is an excellent guitar for strumming but does a fine job with fingerstyle playing as well. A fine piece of work all around - impeccable build quality and very easy on the eyes!
Comes with it's original high quality Hiscox hardshell case. A passive K & K system was installed in the McIlroy shop.
