1 review for Boucher Grand Reserve Studio Goose GR-SG-162-T Torrified 4A Adirondack / Torrified Flamed Maple

  1. David Kellogg-Achin

This dreadnaught —with the torrified maple back and sides being the distinguishing feature of Robin Boucher’s updated Grande Reserve line— slots in beautifully with the OM model reviewed last winter.

While the OM sounded slightly more intimate with exquisitely articulated individual string timbres, the larger voice of this dread is differently voiced, more commanding, while still capable of delicacy. From this video it seems particularly well suited to flat picking.

Doug Yeomans either spends hours with each guitar to learn its signature strengths, or intuitively finds his way into playing what reveals and best portrays the character of each instrument he reviews.

Were my personal preference asked, I would opt for the OM, simply because I enjoy playing small, intimate venues and seldom flat pick or sing in full voice, but this guitar —even in this short video— establishes a new benchmark for the Boucher dreadnaught’s range. Its voice is sweet, engaging, distinctive, maleable, unique. For those to whom this instrument speaks ( I being one ) its call will demand surrender.
